Bird society to organize expedition to Delray Beach wetlands

The Tropical Audubon Society will be traveling to the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach to look for birds.

Southern Palm Beach Birding is an activity where bird enthusiasts can scope out native birds with the assistance of an experienced guide. The leader of the trip is Nancy Freedman, a graduate of Florida International University and volunteer for the Earthwatch organization. She has been going on trips with the Tropical Audubon Society since 1999. Freedman has journeyed to destinations such as Zimbabwe, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Tropical Audubon Society is a group that was established in 1947 and was initially known as the Coconut Grove Audubon Society. The group is involved with conservation issues in Florida and works to protect local water sources. People can volunteer with the organization as gardeners, field trip guides, and graphic designers. Those interested in joining the society can pay $30 annually for an individual membership, which includes free access to birding trips, news updates on conservation issues, and invites to exclusive events.

The birding activity will be held on Saturday, January 21 from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. There is no fee to join Freedman on her expedition. Guests are asked to bring lunches with them to the program. Wildlife organizations such as this may promote their field trips to the community by using poster printing services.
