After coming home to South Florida from Boston Conservatory at Berklee due to the coronavirus pandemic, senior Shelbie Rassler was not about to put her music on hold, and has found great success with an online project.
She wanted people “to feel positive and comforted” and that all of us are in this together, and her drum and saxophone background gave her the experience she needed to work on a communal collaboration via Facebook.
Rassler, from Weston, not far from Coral Springs, came up with the idea of posting her project on her personal page by challenging other instrumentalists and vocalists to join her in creating an online orchestra. Her song choice was “What the World Needs Now,” by Burt Bacharach.
To her amazement and delight, 75 people responded. She then sat down and composed an arrangement that would include all the voices and instruments, and e-mailed the parts to those that wished to participate.
All 75 sent her their individual videos. Rassler spent the next three days compiling the videos and finally she had the finished product.
When she uploaded her virtual orchestration, it immediately went viral. News sources such as NPR and “Good Morning America” gave it special attention.
Everyone is invited to view her video on YouTube. Creative people can use their unique abilities in other genres too, such as bringing a unique prospective to Business Cards, Promotional Products, and graphic design.
