The Office of Sustainability in Coral Springs will offer two workshops for locals interested in composting.
Residents of Coral Springs who want to learn about compost and participate in community composting programs can attend two upcoming workshops. The first will be held at the Coral Springs Community Garden and will be taught by master gardeners. Students will learn different methods of home composting and receive a compost bin for their kitchens. The second workshop will take place at the Kiwanis Park Community Center and will educate guests about the city’s food-scrap drop-off service.
The Compost Coral Springs Program is a project by the city’s Office of Sustainability that aims to help locals reduce food waste by giving it to the Waste Transfer Station and turning garbage into compost. Many types of waste can be used in the program, such as vegetable parts, coffee grounds, and bones. Households are allowed to drop off five gallons of material per week at the waste station, and compost can be collected twice per year.
The class on home composting will be held on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, and the lesson about Coral Springs’ compost program will be on Saturday, June 6 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. There is no cost to sign up for either event, though registration is needed. Cities that host environmental events like this can advertise their programs with flyer printing services.
