Coral Springs apiarists invited to Bee College

The 4th annual South Florida and Caribbean Bee College will be presented by the University of Florida’s Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory.

The event will have classes for bee enthusiasts young and old, and owning bees is not a prerequisite. Topics will cover practical needs and other honeybee-related subjects.

Topics to be addressed in the two workshops will be honeybee diseases and pests and Rearing a Queen. Some classes will be A Beginner’s Overview, a Master Beekeeper Program Overview, Rules and Regulations of Setting Up Your Apiary, and Honey Bee Diets. Keynote speakers will be Justin Schmidt who will speak on ‘Dispelling Myths: Africanized Bees and the Realities of Stings’, and Larry Conner who will be addressing ‘Sustainable Beekeeping’.

Coral Springs residents who register for both days will receive goody Bags. Each bag will have gold lapel pins and Promotional Products. Registration will also include catered lunches, snacks, a banquet dinner, and admittance to an ice cream social.

Awards will be given to the winners of the South Florida and Caribbean Bee College Honey Show at the awards ceremony, and door prizes will be distributed.

Bee College weekend will be held next Friday and Saturday, August 12 and 13, at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agriculture in the Ft. Lauderdale Research and Extension Center. The venue will open at 7:00 am.
