Local triathlon is states season opener

The 39th Annual Great Clermont Triathlon will be coming in mid-March. This event is considered the traditional opener for Florida’s running season.

This international distance triathlon will feature a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike ride, and a 10K run. The event will also have a Duathlon (5K run, 42K bike ride, 10K run), a Sprint Triathlon (quarter-mile swim, eight-mile bike ride, and a 3.1-mile run) and a relay competition.

The swim course will be a 1500m triangular course in Lake Minneola. The bike course begins by cycling around the lake and then will go on towards Ferndale/Montverde. The run course will be an out-and-back loop along the South Lake Trail.

The Florida Challenge-Intimidator Triathlon will be held in conjunction with the Great Clermont. It features the Intimidator, which is a 70.3m half-iron event (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1- mile run). Other competitions will be individual long course aqua biking and relay competition.

Swag includes finisher medals and T-Shirts replete with this year’s event graphic design. There will also be a food tent at the finish line. Awards will be given out in the top overall three finishers in the Intimidator Triathlon, the Sprint Triathlon, and Relay Teams competitions.

The AdventHealth 39th Annual Great Clermont Triathlon is scheduled for March 12 from 7:30 am to noon at Clermont Waterfront Park, 330 3rd Street.
