Events old and new planned for Independence Day

Two events – a race and fireworks – are planned for this year’s Independence Day festivities in Clermont.

FloDash will be presenting its Second Annual Clermont Freedom 5K on Sunday, July 4 beginning at 7:30 am. Participants are encouraged to walk or run the out-and-back course through Downtown Clermont until 8:45 am. There will also be a Virtual component with a $38 signup fee.

Awards will go to the top three female and male overall, female and male masters, and to the top finishers in six age categories.

Race swag includes custom finishers’ medals, post-race snacks, beverages, and custom running race tank tops sporting this year’s race graphic design.

Packet pickup will be available from 6:30 am until 7:15 am. Online registration will be available until 7:15 am using participants’ own devices, as onsite registration will not be offered at the 490 West Avenue site.

Clermont’s free 4th of July Red, White and Boom will have old-fashion family activities, kids’ zone and free shuttle service from the First United Church, Clermont Middle School and Cypress Ridge Elementary School parking lots. Food vendors will be selling summer fare. The crowd will hear SWITCH, a cover band that plays 1980s music, until 9:15 pm, when the fireworks begin over Lake Minneola.

Festivities will be from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm at Waterfront Park, 330 3rd Street.
