Downtown Clermont prepares to dazzle

Gnome for the Holidays is the theme for the 2021 Light up Clermont celebration coming in early December.

Light Up Clermont festivities actually start today, November 20, when Enchanted Forest of Trees opens at Victory Pointe. Over 50 local businesses and organizations will decorate trees today between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. The trees will be displayed until January 2. Children can also send Christmas lists to Santa.

The celebration will kick off in earnest with the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 3 beginning at 5:30 pm and going until 9:00 pm in Downtown Clermont. Activities will include live holiday music, food trucks, carolers, dancing to DJ music, merchandise vendors, and plenty of other shopping opportunities. Kiwanis Club of South Lake will provide photo opportunities with Mrs. Claus and Santa. Tim Murry, Clermont’s Mayor, will lead the Tree Lighting ceremony.

The next morning, on Saturday, Downtown Clermont will host its traditional Hometown Parade. The parade will start at 10:00 am, and Gold Medalist Kaylin Whitney will be this year’s Grand Marshal. Trophies will go to the winners in Most Creative, Best Use of Theme, and Best Overall categories.

Parade winners often take pictures of themselves and their trophies to local Print shops for duplicates for family and friends.

On December 10, participating downtown stores will be treating shoppers to cookies and cocoa from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. During that time, community groups will perform at Victory Point and City Hall Park.
