Clermont runs moonlit spooktacular

Many Clermont runners will soon be digging out, creating, or buying Halloween finery and getting ready to run or walk the Nightmare on the Clermont Trails 5K coming at the end of October.

The 5k moonlit course will be a flat “lollipop” shape, with the beginning and finishing miles on the South Lake Trail. The middle mile will be a loop through Hiawatha Preserve.

Pre-registration will be $35 for in-person and $39 for virtual. Both fees will go up to $45 beginning October 1.

Swag includes finisher medals featuring glow-in-the-dark pumpkins, and black-and-blue long-sleeved mesh shirts sporting the wicked pumpkin in a graphic design. Other swag will include chip-timing on a well-monitored and accurately measured course, six interactive spook zones, awards for the top three male and female finishers, and snacks.

Best-costumed group, crowd favorite, and the scariest costume winners will receive $100 cash prizes. Winners of other costume categories will get merchandise awards.

Packet pick-up will be on Friday, October 27 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sun Creek Brewery, 790 W. Minneola Avenue, and from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the event on race day.

Nightmare on the Clermont Trails 5k will take place Saturday, October 28 beginning at Victory Point, 938 Victory Way. Costume judging will begin at 6:15 pm with the race starting at 6:30 pm.
