Clermont runs, eats, and rows
New Beginnings will be holding its fourth Clermont Waterfront Festival soon. The event proceeds will go to New Beginnings in order to benefit the local homeless.
After a 5K race around the park, guests will get to feast on pancakes at the breakfast. The highlight of the day will be the many dragon boat competitions on Lake Minneolla. This year, the racing classes will be BCS, Club Mixed, Club Open for Men, Club Women, Community Festival Mixed, and Corporate Festival Mixed.
There will be two divisions in the race format - one consists of 10 paddlers and the other 20 paddlers. An equal number of women and men will comprise the mixed teams. Each team will get to row in three races. First, they will row in a qualifying round. Next, they will compete in a semi-final and finally in either a consolation or the championship. Winning teams will be taking pictures of themselves, their boat, and the trophies for possible later poster printing.
After the rowing events, there will be a free kids’ zone. Kids can scale the rock climbing wall, eat snow cones, and play games. They can also get their faces painted and jump in the bounce house.
The event will be at Waterfront Park 330 3rd Street here in Clermont, Saturday, May 6 from 7:30 am until 4:00 pm.
