Clermont readies for cardboard boat racing

The Lake County Rowing Association is about to present its 2nd Annual Clermont Cardboard Classic. Over 500 paddlers and builders are expected to participate in building and racing the duct-taped cardboard crafts.

With some cardboard, a little paint, and lots of duct Tape, everyone is invited to build a craft that they can enter in the race.

Children under the age of 11 can enter the Tadpole or Elementary division. These crews can get their parents to help get the craft into the water and get back to shore. Kids from ages 11 to 13 can enter the Guppy race. The Dolphin and Pods race is for high school kids and young adults from ages 14 to 20 and their families. The Whale division is for adults 21 and older and is the only race that will allow four or more rowers per boat.

Entry fees for youth divisions will be $10 and $25 per family boat. The whale division will require $20 entry fees per individual and $80 for the four or more Moby Dick boats. There will be 10 or more awards per division.

Spectators can also get into the spirit by getting some banner printing done soon so they can display their support of their favorite entries.

The event will be tomorrow, August 3, at Victory Pointe, 938 Victory Way.
