Many Clermont athletes are training for AdventHealth's annual Great Floridian Triathlon coming mid-October.
To get warmed up for the triathlon, runners may enjoy the Sunset 5K Run/Walk around Lake Minneola taking place the evening before on Saturday. That evening the expo and registration will run from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the 5k beginning at 6:30 pm. The Sunset 5k will be $39.
On Sunday, the Great Floridian Triathlon will include the 44 triathlons, a duathlon, an aquabike, team relay and five shorter sprint events and a swim.
Registration for the 44 triathlon and duathlon will be $225 each, aquabike $215, and team relay $295. The Sprint 44 and sprint duathlon will cost $119 each, the aquathon $99 and the sprint triathlon team relay $195. The one-mile swim will cost $49, and the race day 15 k will be $69.
Relay teams at events such as this often wear colorful T-Shirts sporting their logo or graphic design.
Race day on Sunday will begin at 5:45 am with body markings and check-in. Packet pick-up will take place from 5:45 am to 7:30 am. The GFT 44 will begin with waves starting at 7:30 am, 8:15 am sprint triathlon waves begin, and 8:17 am the sprint duathlon will start. Swim cut off time will be 9:30 am and the run course closes at 2:00 pm.
The 2024 Great Floridian Triathlon will take place Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th at the Clermont Waterfront Park, 330 3rd Street.
