Clermont will be celebrating Earth Day this year with an Earth Day and Lake Cleanup in mid-April.
The Lake Hiawatha cleanup is scheduled to take place from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. Prizes will be awarded in three categories - most weight collected, largest volunteer group and oddest object found. Registration must be done before March 28th. Swag will be free T-Shirts.
Organizations that put on events like this often go to local Print shops to get help with graphic design and to have the shop Print the T-Shirts.
Along with the cleanup, from 10:30 am to noon, this free family-friendly event will feature an Earth Day celebration with information on environmental action and awareness. Regional and local environmental organizations will have booths showing what they have been doing and providing ways for passersby to get involved.
Other organizations will be showcasing sustainable living practices with resources and tips on conserving water, reducing waste and using renewable energy.
Wildlife conservationists will be showing how they are protecting local habitats and wildlife and passing out information pertaining to endangered species and natural ecosystems preservation.
Attendees can also learn about composting and recycling - their importance and implementation and gardening with native plants.
Kids can learn about the environment through games and interactive activities, and everyone can get free hotdogs.
Clermont Earth Day will be Saturday, April 19th at Lake Hiawatha Park, 450 12th Street.
