The collection took place at the beginning of August at several local McDonald's outlets. When asked about the importance of the event, Tom Fewster, who owns and operates one of the restaurants, said to the Cape Coral Daily Breeze:
"It's important that I can continue to support my community and the school supply has been a great way to do that. Our customers came out in droves over the weekend, and for that, we're grateful."
The school supplies were donated to the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, a non-profit organization that strives to improve the quality of public education in the county. Often, organizations will use poster printing to thank donors and others who support their initiatives.
Marshall T. Bower, the CEO and president of the Foundation, expressed thanks to the fast food restaurants for their support over the years. Donated items will be given to schools that requested assistance or will be added to the Education Resource Center, which teachers can use to stock their classrooms.
School supplies will be distributed directly to district schools that have submitted requests for assistance on behalf of our students, and The Foundation will restock the Education Resource Center.
