Cape Coral prepares for hurricane season

Prevention, preparedness, response and recovery are keywords when it comes to hurricane season in Cape Coral, and residents are being invited to attend the City of Cape Coral's second annual Hurricane Expo.

Experts from over 20 local agencies and organizations that focus on disaster preparation will be on hand at the event to share their knowledge with the public. The four-hour expo is free and features a hurricane season outlook by a well-known area meteorologist.

Attendees will obtain crucial hurricane details and information in order to stay safe during the storm season, which runs from June to November.

Historically, Cape Coral has avoided the worst of regional hurricane damage despite the many storms that have torn through the area. Four large hurricanes have hit outside city boundaries in more recent years with weather patterns and wind directions pushing water away from Cape Coral. However, history doesn't mean the city shouldn't stay vigilant and ensure citizens are well-prepared.

All of Cape Coral is in a storm evacuation zone, making hurricane preparedness an essential annual event. To visually promote the expo, organizers can depend on area printers to provide professional graphic design options.

The expo takes place on June 15 from 11am to pm at the German American Club of Cape Coral at 2101 SW Pine Island Road. There will be giveaways and the first 100 attendees will receive a case of water to add to their emergency kits.
