The holiday season got started a bit early in Cape Coral this year.
At the end of October, the Cape Coral Art League held an early winter holiday party to kick off the first ever ‘Celebrate the Holidays at Cultural Park Card Contest’. The event included milk and cookies and a holiday card contest, judged by three members of the community.
The three judges were Keith Locklin, the recreation superintendent for the city, Marilyn Stout, a councilwoman, and John Szerlag, the city manager. The trio choose three winners, based on age, from a range of card entries.
Richard Goodnight took home the prize in the adult category, while Jessica Baker won in the high school category. Tenley Patrick won in the preschool-middle school age group. Each of the three cards will be displayed in the lobby at the Cape Coral City Hall from November 27 until December 8.
Cities can use printing companies to spread the word about new contests and upcoming events. The three winning cards will not only be put on display for the community to see, but will also be transformed into large-scale cards, which will be put up during the Celebrate the Holidays at Cultural Park event on December 9, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm.
The celebration will include carolers, holiday decorations, and Santa Claus, who will arrive on a fire truck. Guests are asked to bring a nonperishable food item or unwrapped gift for kids aged three to eight.
