239 Festival coming to Cape Coral

Fans of punk, reggae, and ska will get a chance to hear some local bands for free, when the 239 Fest returns to Cape Coral.

In this sixth year of the two-day event, all of the bands performing are from the state of Florida. Some come from Miami, some from Orlando, and others from Tampa. Speaking about the goal of the festival, Eric Demayo, one of its co-organizers, told the Cape Coral Daily Breeze that:
"[We] wanted to use it as a way to check out underground independent music. It's a good chance to check out some local original music and bands."

Organizers of local, independent music festivals can get the word out about their events with flyer printing. Part of the appeal of the 239 Festival is that admission is free. Demayo said that he and other organizers considered charging for tickets, but decided that it was more important to keep the event without charge. Donations will be gladly accepted during it, however.

A DJ is scheduled to start off the performances and wrap up the festival on the second night. It will be the first year that the organizers have booked a DJ.

Concerts start this Friday, October 7, at 8:00 pm. They continue on Saturday, starting at 4:00 pm. All concerts take place at Rack'em Spirits & Times in the South Cape. The festival will have two stages on which bands will perform. Admission is limited to people over age 18.
