Workshop to help make Bradenton yards more beautiful

Selecting plants for a particular property will depend upon a variety of factors, and this will be the topic of a workshop that will help residents of Bradenton to have a beautiful yard that is well suited to the particular conditions found in the area.

The University of Florida Extension Manatee County is offering a seminar that will focus of choosing which plants will do best in which conditions. Gathering this knowledge can offer many benefits, including reducing the amount of water needed to keep a particular landscape looking great.

Susan Griffith and Valrie Massey, both of whom have extensive experience in the horticultural field, will be facilitating the class. They will provide details about how factors such as soil pH levels and type, drainage, sun exposure, a site’s saline levels, and access to water can all determine which plants will thrive with a minimum level of care. It is suitable for both the novice gardener and the green thumb alike, and it is free to take part.

Completing this workshop will meet the criteria for the educational requirement set by the Manatee County Outdoor Water Rebate Program. Plant selection and growing guides can be prepared for distribution during a class like this by area Print shops.

The South Manatee Library will be offering this learning opportunity on Wednesday, January 9. It is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
