Directors collaborate on season-ending show in Bradenton

Two Florida theater and dance directors will blend their artistry in a special performance next month in Bradenton, showcasing gospel and Motown music.

Nate Jacobs of Westcoast Black Theater Troupe (WBTT) and Leymis Bolanos Wilmott of Sarasota Contemporary Dance (SCD) will join to present SCD + WBTT, an uplifting song and dance experience that will close out SCD’s 20th season.

Over the two decades, SCD has been presenting professional dance to area communities. SCD shares its love of dance with the public through education and performance-based programs, including offering weekly lessons for all ages.

The WBTT is dedicated to presenting professional stage performances that showcase African American history and culture. Founded more than 26 years ago, the non-profit group provides theater experience to help develop the skills and confidence of young African American artists.

The directors of both groups envisioned a shared production and the upcoming show is the result of their combined talents.

At the close of the final performance, guests can enjoy a champagne celebration and hear about information and dates for SCD’s 21st season.

Dance companies that present a lineup of annual performances often use poster printing to advertise their shows.

SCD + WBTT will be on stage at the Manatee Performing Arts Center in Bradenton on May 15, 2026 at 7:30 pm and May 16, 2026 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm.
