The Long Skinny Boat Camp opened its fifth season this week, with 28 campers from the Bradenton-Sarasota area interested in rowing and racing together.
The camp is held at the Ft. Hamer Park Rowing Facility in Parrish, just a short distance from Bradenton.
According to Coach Trish Jackson, the area has developed a reputation as a destination for rowing, with the World Rowing Championships being hosted in nearby Benderson Park in 2017. She has described rowing as “the ultimate team sport” and everyone pulls together in order to succeed.
The camp starts out with the basics, such as learning the parts of a boat and how to get in and out of it. There is continuous instruction during the first day, beginning with starting on land, then taking to the water, and, by the end, being able to row across the Fort Hamer Park basin.
The rowing camp is held by the Manatee County Youth Rowing organization, which comprises local high school principals and athletic directors, the high school superintendent, commissioners from the county, and volunteers. The organization most likely uses the services of local Print companies to promote its camps and other programs.
July 17 is the last day for the current rowing camp, with a mini-regatta at 10:45 am. The third and final session will run from July 27 to August 7.Get a Free Quote for Print
