Bradenton talk to help make sense of alligator behavior

Alligators may be a well-known Florida reptile, but a talk that has been planned for Bradenton’s South Florida Museum will seek to educate people further on the creature.

Master Naturalist Wayne Douchkoff will be sharing secrets about these ancient creatures that many may not be aware of, such as how they make use of their senses to interpret the world in which they live. Douchkoff will provide details about alligator behavior and why they engage in it, and also how they have been able to remain almost unchanged as a species for millions of years.

A second goal of the event is to provide those who come out with knowledge they can use to coexist safely with these large and potentially dangerous reptiles. According to the museum’s website, the hope is that people will develop an appreciation for these often misunderstood creatures. Handouts and other informational materials for an event such as this can be provided by a printer using digital copying.

‘Alligators: Making Sense of Their Six Senses’ has been planned for June 14 in the museum, which is located at 201 10th Street West in Bradenton. Anyone who would like to find out more, or who wishes to purchase tickets for the talk, can do so through the South Florida Museum’s website.
