Knife forging course brings new skills to Waterbury

A knife forging session is in the works for The Brass City next month, and residents seeking the knowledge to forge knives will want to circle the date.

The Forging Bowie Knives with Mace Vitale learning session has an official start date in the Books, with interested parties learning the finer points of forging, firing, and maintaining knives from local experts. Vitale, who has earned his Journeyman Smith certification, will take students on a two-day journey through creating a unique piece to keep or give as a gift to family and loved ones.

The session’s initial stages will focus on forging and grinding the metal to begin working it into a knife. Students will then focus on learning to heat-treat and sharpen the blade for practical uses. Flyer printing is an effective way to promote such events and generate excitement for learners in the area.

All students must be 18 or older to participate in the knife forgery course. The class will break for one hour on both days to allow students to eat lunch. Students can bring food from home or purchase lunch from a local restaurant. Safety glasses will be provided.

Dragon’s Breath Forge will host the learning experience starting on Saturday, January 18th, from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Interested parties can enroll in the course online. Enrollment is $370 per student.
