A professional clinic is in the works for umpires near Plainville who want to improve their skills and learn the latest techniques for the upcoming spring season.
The Plate Mechanics Clinic in neighboring Bristol is set to welcome umpires from Plainville and around the Northeast, with a focus on improving skills and refining the fundamentals of working as a home plate umpire. It will be the first clinic offering of its kind, and it will be led by the Little League Baseball National Instructor Team.
The goal is to help umpires of all experience and skill levels to improve their game calling and work behind the plate. Umpires will build their fundamentals and learn the newest techniques to get proper angles on pitches and make accurate calls. Brochure printing can provide extra information to attendees at such workshops to continue working on their skills at home.
Attendees will learn through seminars, classroom instruction, video analysis, and drill work. Some modules include Strike Zone Strategy, Style and Form Calls, and Play Positioning for Force Tags at the Plate. Participants must bring their umpiring gear, cover their lodging, and make breakfast and dinner arrangements.
The Little League Eastern Regional Complex will be the host site for the seminar, which will be held on Saturday, February 1, starting at 9:00 AM. General admission tickets for interested parties start at $65.29 and can be purchased online.
