Success of college readiness program means it will continue

Middlesex Community College (MxCC), having viewed its pilot college readiness program a success, has decide to once again offer local high school students as well as adults its “Transitional Strategies” program for free.

The program provides a chance to earn college credit while acquiring academic skills. The purpose of Transitional Strategies is to assist with the successful transition to college. A significant part of the course is the improvement of English and math skills, which are where many incoming college freshman stumble. Those who complete the course have a greater chance for success doing college level work, which means higher retention and graduation numbers.

The program consists of a three-credit Freshman Seminar the purpose of which is to provide learning strategies and build critical thinking skills. Additionally students take part in either a fast track math (algebra) workshop or English workshop (writing and reading skills) or both.

Getting the word out about this free program and all of its particulars is a job perhaps best tackled with the assistance of Stationery printers who can supply both Brochures and Flyers.

Courses take place at the Middletown campus of MxCC as well as at the Meridan Center and adult education venues in Middletown and Wallingford. The classes are small, so as to provide maximum academic support. Middletown Adult Education also provides additional support in the way of daycare or bus tokens.
