Sites chosen for free summer food in Middletown

Summer can be a rough times for families who struggle with food insecurities, but three locations in Middletown will now begin to offer free meals alongside activities for children.

Beginning June 22nd and running through to August 21st, kids can enjoy a few hours of supervised play along with healthy meals Monday through Friday. Each of the three sites also offers activities from 10am to 1pm. Meal times vary somewhat, but are within the activity timeframe.

The Church of Holy Trinity will be serving breakfast between 10am and 11am at 381 Main Street. Its lunches will take place between 11:30am and 1pm. Meanwhile, Maplewood Terrace Community Center will be serving snacks from 10-10:30am, with its lunches starting at 11:30am and running until 12:30pm. Also, Traverse Square Community Room will offer snacks from 10-11am, and its lunches will commence at noon and run up to 1pm.

Funding for the Summer Food Service Program is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service and administered by the Connecticut State Department of Education. The Community Renewal Team will prepare the food for each location.

Many families with children in need of these free meals may be unaware of this resource and the locations providing food. However, a Stationery printing service can assist in getting the word out via Posters and Flyers.
