Middletown march takes steps to end domestic violence

Middletown has been asked to stand up for those affected by domestic violence by being part of an awareness raising event. It will include representatives from shelters and other supports all across the state, all with a goal of ending the cycle of domestic abuse.

For the past four years, New Horizons Domestic Violence Services has hosted “Walk to End the Silence”, which is intended to draw attention to the impact this issue can have on women, men, children, and the community as a whole. By starting a conversation about intimate partner violence, the organization is hoping to help break the cycle, and the public’s support will be greatly appreciated.

A variety of organizations will be represented during the walk, including the Middletown Police Department, the Community Health Center and several others. All of the monies raised during the morning will be contributed to New Horizons, which will use it to help fund its programming and other community initiatives.

The fee to register for the walk is $20 each, and students are welcome to join in free of charge. An eye-catching banner carried at the front of a procession like this can help to raise awareness, and banner printing companies will have many options available.
