Middletown’s South Fire District Fire Chief and CEO has been selected by the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association as the latest recipient of its Fire Safety Advocate Award.
Robert Ross received the award for his innovative efforts to enhance public safety by means of education, enforcement, or legislation, or other effective means.
In his 33 years in the fire service, Ross has had occasion to update his digital business card numerous times. He has worked at a number of levels, starting with fire protection and progressing through emergency management and administration all the way to senior level management.
In addition to his work record, Chief Ross also has served on several local, state, and national committees in various capacities that range from board member all the way, in some instances, to president or committee chairman. Moreover, Ross volunteers with several nonprofits, including the National Exchange Clubs and United Way, as well as being on the local high school board.
Among the work-related organizations Ross has been associated with are International Association of Fire Chiefs, American Red Cross, International Fire Service Training Association, International Association of Firefighters, Middletown Hospital BIO-Terrorism Taskforce, and Middletown Emergency Management.
The formal presentation of Chief Ross’ Fires Safety Advocate Award will take place in Palm Beach, Florida at the annual meeting of the Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association from October 21 to 23.
