Annual college meeting brings together stakeholders

On October 22, the Middlesex Community College (MxCC) Foundation held its annual meeting at which scholarship winners were able to meet the donors whose generosity provided financial assistance towards their education.

In total, 74 Connecticut students received nearly $60,000 in scholarships in 2015. The recipients were either beginning their studies at MxCC or continuing their education there in the 2015-16 academic year. Foundation Chair Mary Ann B. Cox pointed out that once the combination of available financial aid and low tuition costs put obtaining a degree at a community college within reach of almost everyone, but that is no longer the case.

Decreased funding for student aid from the state has come about at the same time reduced state funding to post-secondary institutions have resulted in higher tuition. This has created an environment where the role of donors is increasingly important in enabling educational opportunities to continue for many students at MxCC.

Institutions such as the College do their part in assisting Middletown area students with their financial needs by working with newsletter of brochure printing services to inform students of the many scholarship, grant, and loan options available to them.

In addition to bringing together donors and scholarship recipients the annual MxCC Foundation meeting was also an occasion to elect four new members of the board to serve three-year terms.
