West Hartford to welcome new clothing store

The New York clothier J. McLaughlin is set to open a new location in West Hartford.

Due to open later this week at the West Hartford Centre, the store will sell men's and women's clothing and accessories. It will occupy space vacated by another clothier, Sev Shak.

The new site is between Grant's and lululemon at 981 Farmington Avenue. The landlord refused to consider a restaurant or service provider, instead insisting that only a goods store could move in. Once open, this location brings the total of J. McLaughlin stories to 83, five of which are in Connecticut.

Jay and Kevin McLaughlin founded their store on New York City's Upper East Side in 1977. In a press release, Jay McLaughlin said he was “thrilled” to be opening a store in West Hartford, adding that the chain has enjoyed great success in Connecticut, so starting up an additional location seemed the natural thing to do.

Store management could consider working with a flyer printing company to create a handout to be distributed near the store on opening day. Including a coupon for a discount, or even for a free item, may encourage consumers to try the store, while having people pass out the Flyers by hand can add to the excitement of the opening.

The store will open this Friday, July 18.
