West Hartford says yes to food trucks

On March 28, West Hartford's town council approved an ordinance that will allow food trucks to operate in the town. The trucks have been authorized to conduct business on New Park Avenue in the city's Elmwood section.

In addition, a ‘Food Truck Park’ has been authorized. This ordinance allows as many as five trucks to remain parked in a specific area from 10:00 am until 11:00 pm. However, the trucks must remain at least 500 feet away from traditional brick-and-mortar restaurants. The restriction is fine with truck operator Clover Marsh, who says it is okay to be at a distance from these businesses.

Shari Cantor, the mayor of West Hartford, said she is in favor of the trucks because they work well. She believes they draw a diverse group of people, from area employees to young families, who want a quick and specific meal at a reasonable price.

About 12 people attended the council meeting, many of them the owners and operators of food trucks. They wanted to be allowed to discuss their passion for their food, and said they hoped they would be allowed to set up shop in the city.

The trucks also won permission to set up on a piece of property, as long as they have approval from the establishment to do so.

Businesses like this can benefit by working with poster printing companies, which can create colorful advertising Signs for them.
