A fun run is on the calendar in Hartford that will also help those in need.
The Blue Back Mitten Run 5K is open to walkers and runners of all abilities and ages, who come together for the holiday season. The course leads through the neighborhoods in West Hartford, where participants will see homes and shop windows bright with holiday decorations. In addition to the main event, the Hartford Marathon Foundation is also hosting an HMF FitKids run, in which the youngsters can participate in either a one-half mile, or full mile race to Blue Back Square.
The race also provides participants with a chance to give back to the neighborhoods welcoming the runners to their streets. Organizers are asking that people donate new hats, scarves or mittens, which they will collect on the day of the race, as has become customary. This year, however, people are being asked to dig a little deeper and “stuff the mittens,” either with a small amount of cash, or a check. If they choose the latter, they should make it out to “The Town That Cares Fund,” which is a program overseen by West Hartford's Department of Human and Leisure Services.
The Blue Back Mitten Run is scheduled for December 6th, with the FitKids run at 10:00am, and the 5K starting off at 10:30am. Banner printing can be used to create outdoor decorations for events like this.
