Over $1m raised at hospital gala

On January 28, more than 1,000 people attended the Black & Red Gala at The Bushnell in Hartford, Connecticut.

The event was an annual fundraiser for Hartford Hospital, and brought in more than $1m to support the hospital's Hartford HealthCare Neuroscience Institute. In addition, it was announced that two philanthropic gifts, totaling millions of dollars, had also been made to the institute.

The first gift came from Ramani and Louise Ayer, and will go to support the institute in general, which will bear their name. The Chase family gave the second gift to support additional development of the Movement Disorders Center. That facility, too, will be named after these generous donors. Finally, a neurology fellowship will be created in movement disorders.

The physician-in-chief in chief of the still-developing institute is Dr. Mark J. Alberts, who is also Hartford Hospital's chief of neurology. Alberts said the reason he joined the organization was because of Hartford's comprehensive approach to healthcare for everyone. He said his vision for care aligns with that of the hospital, and includes steps like providing necessary care to patients without barriers, in various settings. He hopes one day to see Hartford Hospital become known internationally for its comprehensive care for a number of conditions such as strokes, headaches, and other neurological problems.

Facilities like this can benefit if officials create Brochures that list staff members and services available at the location.
