A judge in Hartford has given the go-ahead to a proposed development that has been stuck in limbo.
Hartford Superior Court Judge Thomas Moukawsher recently ruled that a proposed development near Dunkin' Donuts Park can proceed, and that the city was within its rights when it fired the previous developers.
RMS Cos. is now the developer on the project, and the company's CEO and founder, Randy Salvatore, said RMS is moving to finalize the legal documents and plans for construction.
The first phase of the project will be built on what's called “Parcel C,” which is land just south of the new ballpark. This phase of construction would erect 200 apartments for mixed-income residents; a total of 11,000 square feet to be used as community space as well as retail; and a parking garage with 250 spaces. It would take 18 months to finish this part of the project. The entire project has a price tag of $200 million and covers 13 acres. In his ruling, Judge Moukawsher noted it was important for the development to go forward, as the north end has been struggling. The judge and others believe that developing the area will rejoin it with the city's downtown, and continue the momentum that developed with the construction of Dillon Stadium, Dunkin' Donuts Park, and Front Street, which has become a lively destination since UConn opened a campus there.
