Hartford science center to hold film screening

The Connecticut Science Center in Hartford will be screening a sci-fi film in March.

Those interested in watching a movie and interacting with its director can attend a film screening for Coded Bias. The film is about artificial intelligence and the consequences that occur when machines encroach on social systems. Shalini Kantayya, the director, will give a presentation about the movie after it is finished, and will answer questions from the audience. All attendees must be fully vaccinated to join the screening and are required to show proof of their vaccination.

Kantayya is a filmmaker who debuted her first feature, titled Catching the Sun, at the LA Film Festival. Other movies she has directed include A Drop of Life, Doctor In Law, and Laughing Out Loud. Kantayya also created short films for organizations such as the Real Food Media Project and Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy. Coded Bias is her most recent movie and gained her the SIMA Award for Best Director, as well as a nomination for a Cinema Eye Honor.

The film screening will take place on March 3 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Members of the Connecticut Science Center may attend the program for free, while college students can pay $5. General admission for the movie will cost guests $8. Masks must be worn by all viewers throughout the film and presentation. Special screenings like this can be promoted to consumers by using flyer printing.
