A group of 12 Hartford nonprofit organizations received grants from the state to help them continue operating. Across the state, grants were given to a total of 92 nonprofits, totaling about $30.8 million. The funds are earmarked for one-time improvements in infrastructure.
Dannel Malloy, Connecticut's governor, said the state's nonprofits serve residents across the state, and are vital to maintaining the social safety net. Helping to support them, he noted, is smart fiscally, since they will be able to continue providing needed services, which they are already equipped to do in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Communitywide issues like this are of interest to many people, and officials could work with Print shops to create a newsletter to keep them informed.
The organizations that received the funding were:
• Catholic Charities, Inc., of the Archdiocese of Hartford
• Charter Oak Health Center, Inc.
• The Chrysalis Center, Inc.
• Community Partners in Action, Inc.
• The Community Renewal Team
• Hands on Hartford
• Harc, Inc.
• The Jewish Association for Community Living, Inc.
• The Open Hearth Association
• The Village for Families & Children, Inc.
• The YMCA of Metropolitan Hartford. Inc.
• The YWCA Hartford Region, Inc.
Funds will be used for such projects as buying generators, upgrading technology to support clients, improve safety and accessibility, replace vans, and renovate buildings. The largest grant was nearly $1.5 million, which went to the Chrysalis Center, while the smallest was $35,000, which will enable the Open Hearth Association to buy new fire doors.
