Hartford community to fight against ALS

Those in Hartford are invited to take part in a fundraiser and walk this October at Dunkin Donuts Park.

The Walk to Defeat ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is an event where people can raise awareness for the condition and assist the ALS Association with raising funds for treatment research. Some of the past accomplishments of the association include establishing a platform trial to speed up drug development and creating genetic testing guidelines to help people identify ALS early. The fundraising goal of the ALS walk is $75,000, and participants have already raised more than $45,000 for the organization.

Anyone can take part in the walk, and all routes for the course are wheelchair accessible. Attendees are encouraged to participate in Unlock ALS, which is a program where people where different colored keys to show how their lives have been impacted by ALS. Those with yellow keys have ALS, and people with blue keys are walking in honor of someone with ALS. Participants who have lost someone to the condition can wear a gray key to the event.

The community walk will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00 am. Those interested in attending can register individually or in teams. Supporters of the cause who cannot participate may donate to an already established group or individual. Organizations may promote fundraisers like this by using Print shops to make Banners.
