For the first time, Hartford was recently host to a Fashion Week celebration that featured designers from the local area.
The week wrapped up Sunday, October 4, with a show held in Union Station's Great Hall, the last of several held there beginning the preceding Friday. The hall was fitted out with seating, sound, a projector, and lights, which transformed it into a professional runway. Designers showed their wares, pairing them with accessories made by local artisans.
Katrina Orsini organized the week and labeled it a success, noting that over 300 people had attended the show Saturday night. She is already planning next year's Fashion Week, which she hopes will be even more successful.
The week began with a panel discussion on fashion and art in Hartford, held in conjunction with a launch party. On Wednesday, September 30, the film ‘Homme Less’ was shown, and on Thursday, the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art hosted a mini-runway expo.
Orsini said her inspiration for Hartford Fashion Week came when she saw the number of talented textile designers and artists who live in the area, but have nowhere to show their work. Now that she has successfully launched the event, Orsini could work with a brochure printing company to create a booklet for Mailing to residents, including photos of this year's runway shows and reminding them to look for the event next year.Get a Free Quote for Mailing
