Community cleanup scheduled for Hartford

People imbued with the “can-do” spirit will meet in Hartford soon in an attempt to spruce the area up.

Artists, hip-hop lovers, skaters, and supporters of local culture and music will want to be involved in the event, which is designed to raise awareness of the arts as well as helping to clean up the neighborhood.

Among the musicians appearing will be Funk Gero, Joey Batts, the Possm, N.M.E. the Illest, Wrex Mason, Zulynette, Hartford Hot Several, Clas!ck, and Tang$auce. Other activities planned are poetry readings, community gardening, face painting, live mural painting, and a neighborhood cleanup. There will also be food trucks available.

The event will take place at EightSixty Custom, a shop and indoor skate park serving the West End and Parkville areas. There is a small half-pipe in the parking lot, and the space is part den and part store, with a seating area where patrons can watch skateboarding videos. It also sells clothes, hats, boards, sneakers, accessories, and paint.

Volunteers are needed to start their day at about 9:00 am, while the entertainment is slated to begin at 4:30 pm. The date of the event is this Saturday, May 14, and donations are suggested.

Event organizers might consider creating festive Banners to hang throughout the shop on the day of the cleanup. They might consider creating a banner for each band scheduled to appear.
