The Playhouse on Park theatre, located in West Hartford, will be hosting a Musical Theatre Preparatory Program next month. Classes are open for elementary school children in grades three to eight.
This intensive summer program will give children the opportunity to attend classes and rehearsals with Broadway artists visiting from throughout the country. Students will spend their mornings learning theatrical skills, including facial expression, spatial awareness, choreographed dance and singing. In the afternoon, the children will learn about producing a show, including props, costumes and theatre set design. Special Master Classes in clowning and audition techniques will also be included. Print shops are often used to create collectible show programs for events like these.
During the two-week program the students will have the opportunity to experience, most elements of a show’s production. They will audition, learn lines, rehearse dance routines and musical numbers in preparation for opening night. On the last day of class family and friends will be invited to attend a final live performance.
The program will be held on week days from Monday July 5th to Friday July 16th from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily. Children can be dropped off at 8:30 AM and picked up by 4:00 PM as required. Regular tuition for the full program costs $725.00 per child with discounts available for children who participate in multiple courses and for siblings of past participants. A select number of scholarships are awarded by the theatre each year based on need. The Playhouse on Park theatre is located at 244 Park Road.
