Anyone who has ever wanted to be in a ‘slasher’ film or creature feature has a shot at it, thanks to Synthetic Cinema, since the company is holding an open casting call in Hartford.
Synthetic Cinema is based in Rocky Hill, and plans to produce three horror films in 2013. The major roles will be taken by experienced performers, though no names have been released. Actors will be seen on a first-come, first served basis, and are expected to have a monologue or other piece ready - two to three minutes in length.
Andrew Gernhard, who will produce the movies, says they will have limited theatrical releases, unlike the company’s other projects, which have all gone either to TV then DVD, or direct to DVD. He notes that one film is a slasher movie, the second is horror, and the third is an action film featuring some sort of creature he will not disclose.
Among the films the company has produced are ‘Dead Souls’, ‘Werewolf: The Devil’s Hound’, and ‘Predator Island’. Thus far, Synthetic has 11 feature films to its credit, all of which were made in Connecticut, in locations ranging from Mystic to East Lyme.
The new films will be shot right here in Hartford, though. The call is scheduled for Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Theaterworks, located at 233 Pearl Street. The casting session is for extras and smaller roles and will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Synthetic could work with flyer printing experts to create materials for distribution in schools and similar venues where interested people might gather.
