The first bus rapid-transit system in Connecticut, CT Fastrak, also known as the New Britain-Hartford Busway, wants to increase its usage and is offering discounts to help in this effort.
The Busway broke ground in May 2012 and opened to riders in March 2015. The transit project is seen as the most cost-effective method of relieving traffic congestion on I-84 between New Britain, Newington, West Hartford, and Hartford.
The discounts are not on the fares, but on merchandise riders might like to purchase. Businesses such as Good Cause Gifts, Camilla's Latin Restaurant, Capitol Lunch, Social Enterprise Trust, and City Hot Dogs are offering a wide variety of discounts. Businesses throughout other parts of the Hartford area served by the Busway are also taking part. All a rider needs to do is go to one of the participating businesses, show a valid CT Fastrak proof of payment, and order an item from the business.
CT Fastrak says it intends to make riders aware of these offers via its Facebook and Twitter accounts, but officials could also work with a flyer printing company to create a handout for riders. It could have the Flyers distributed at bus stops throughout the system, as well as near the participating businesses the Busway serves, to increase awareness of the offer and the benefits using it can bring.
