Baseball team parades new uniforms

Hartford’s Double-A baseball club, the Yard Goats, showed off their new uniforms at the Infinity Music Hall last Tuesday.

Media personalities helped team members model the new uniforms. In addition, the team revealed its new mascots, Chew Chew and Chompers. The Yard Goats are the East Coast affiliate of the Colorado Rockies pro team.

There are five different variations in the jerseys: two different designs for home games; one for away games; one for Sunday games; and one for batting practice. The designs are similar in most cases, except for the colors. For instance, one of the home jerseys is white, with the name “Yard Goats” in royal blue, and the number of the player in green on the back and front. The trim is blue and green, and the goat logo is on the sleeve. The other jerseys are variations on this design.

The lettering of the name “Hartford”, used on away-game jerseys, is stylized in a curvy font designed using the font once used by the New York/New Haven/Hartford Railroad. The team name comes from the railroad as well; a “yard goat” is a locomotive that works only in a rail yard. The green and blue motif was used by predecessors the Hartford Whalers.

Team management might work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents, showing the new uniforms and encouraging them to attend games.
