The Arvada Center is hosting a performance of The King Penny Radio Show next month.
Featuring a rotating cast of actors, the performance is an improvised 1940s-style radio show, complete with each actor dressing in the snappy Apparel of the time. Men sport ties, suspenders, and Vests, while women are decked out in dresses, berets, and scarves.
To complete the immersion, audience members are also encouraged to dress in era-accurate clothing, or the closest approximation, to help bring the Golden Era of Radio to life.
The subject matter of the radio show itself is unique to each performance and comes from audience suggestions. To help sell the schtick, the actors use old-timey microphones. The group even includes a foley artist, who is a person who creates sound effects for the stage.
The performance takes place at the Arvada Center’s The Front Room. Formerly known as Ballroom A, the space was transformed into an intimate theatrical space where local artists can host creative or themed events. Though it has a smaller capacity than the Outdoor Amphitheatre, there is still plenty of seating, drinks available for purchase, and a tight-knit vibe.

The King Penny Radio Show will be on Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 pm in The Front Room of the Arvada Center at 6901 Wadsworth Blvd.
