The Arvada Center will present two jazz programs over the next couple of months.
Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill will be an intimate biopic of jazz great Billie Holiday's final performances, based on playwright Lanie Robertson's original script. The audience will be treated to classic songs like "God Bless the Child" and "Strange Fruit". Essence Anisa Tyler will play Holiday. The music director for the show, Jodel Charles, will also take up the role of Jimmy Page.
Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill will take place from September 26 to November 2 at Arvada Center's BlackBox Theater, 6901 Wadsworth Boulevard. Performances will run from Wednesday through Saturday beginning at 7:30 pm, with matinees at 1:00 pm on Wednesdays and 2:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra will be presenting "Rhythm and Brass: A Latin Jazz Fiesta with Marion Powers." The evening will be a fiery night of salsa, and a fusion of jazz harmonies and Afro-Caribbean beats played by the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra 's big band, with vocals from Marion Powers.
This will be on Saturday, October 18 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Center's Main Stage Theater, 6901 Wadsworth Boulevard.
