Studio City revelers to join in Los Angeles Chinese tradition

Los Angeles’s Chinese Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year this weekend with its 121st Annual Golden Dragon Parade.

Over 110,000 spectators will be lining the main streets in Chinatown to watch the procession. The event continues to stress ethnic diversity, expose spectators to Chinese-American businesses, and Chinese culture.

Marching bands, a couple of dozen floats, entertainers, government officials, cultural groups, nonprofits, and local business leaders will be parading down North Broadway. The parade will actually begin at Temple on Hill Street and head toward Bernard. It will turn right onto Bernard, right again onto Broadway, and meander back to Temple. The highlight of the parade will be the traditional 25-man $1,500 dragon and the traditional lion dance.

Diamond ($100,000), Platinum ($50,000), Gold ($25,000), and Silver ($10,000) sponsorships will include the organization’s name and Logo Design on the Chinese Chamber of Commerce website. All these sponsors will also receive one float entry, Grandstand tickets, Invitations to the Golden Dragon Parade VIP Reception and full-color advertisement page in the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Yearbook. Sponsorships for lower budgets, such as Bronze ($15,000) and Community ($3,000), are also available.

Everyone coming to the parade is advised not to drive or park in Chinatown but to take public transportation. Rain or shine, the parade will start at 1:00 pm and will end around 3:30 pm this Saturday, February 1.
