Studio City residents to get a chance to learn about the New Gym Project

Studio City’s Local Volunteer Neighborhood Oversight Committee will be holding the second of three meetings to discuss the upcoming construction of a new gym.

The new recreation center, which will replace the old one in Beeman Park, will cost close to $10m. The gym, still in the pre-design stage, will run about $3m.

Construction of the new gym is projected to begin September 2017 and go until March 2019. It will be funded by Measure (Prop) K, which has backed nine projects in Studio City since its inception in 1997. Allison Abano the former project manager for the Beeman Park redevelopment program, feels that one key to getting the project approved and running smoothly depends on getting support of the majority of the area’s residents. Addressing concerns is the reason for the three meetings. The first meeting has already been held earlier this month.

Some residents are concerned about having construction right in their own backyards over such a long time and are recommending that the project should have a shorter construction time. Anyone who has opinions about this may want to have some flyers printed to distribute to neighbors and friends before this meeting, or definitely before the next one.

The meeting will take place Wednesday, November 4 at 3:00 pm at the Beeman Park Recreation Center, 12621 Rye St., Studio City.
