Studio City gets a month of spooky movies

October is almost here, and to get us all in the ghost and goblin mood, the Studio City Neighborhood Council will be offering ‘Monster Palooza, Silver Screen Monster Series’.

This is seven evenings of Halloween-type Universal Classic movies from 1931 to 1954. The event is for teens and adults only.

To start things off, the first movie will be the traditional all-time classic of Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. This is the granddaddy that started the horror film phenomena at Universal back in 1931, and was the original vampire horror flick. Bela Lagosi portrays the old vampire Count Dracula as he once again preys on the innocent Mina, portrayed by Helen Chandler. For a little nostalgia, those who enjoy the movie may want to look up that old iconic poster, look over the style, coloring, and type, and then have some new poster printing done.

The other movies that will be presented during the series will be ‘Frankenstein’, ‘The Mummy’, ‘The Invisible Man’, ‘The Bride of Frankenstein’, ‘The Wolf Man’, and the 1954 version of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.

The movies will be shown at the Studio City Public Library, 11251 Moorspark Street, Studio City, starting at 6:00 pm. This first one will be on Monday, October 5, with the others scheduled for Monday and Wednesday evenings during the month.
