Studio City area pays tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be remembered in 2020 with four local events coming on the anniversary of his birthday on January 20.

The California African American Museum in Exposition Park will have a Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration. Family art activities will start at 10:00 am, excerpts from Dr. King’s speeches will be read starting at 1:00 pm.

The 35th Annual Kingdom Day Parade in Dr. King’s honor will start on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. It will go south on Western Avenue, turn west on 48th Street and end in Leimert Park Plaza. The parade will step off at 10:00 am.

One highlight of the parade will be the 2020 Queen and her court. Candidates are between the ages of 17 and 24. They are all full time students and active in community service. This year’s queen will present the awards from the parade.

Parents of parade queens often have pictures taken during the coronation. They take the pictures to local Print shops to make duplicate Copies that they send to relatives and friends.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Blvd. will have a MLK free museum day. There will be family activities for Studio City families and music ranging from folk, to soul, to pop.

National parks such as Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley will waive admission fees. The parks are expecting more people and less available parking on that day.
