Plans are underway to demolish the Sportsmen’s Lodge hotel in Studio City and construct apartments on the site.
The complex was popular during the 1930s as a destination for trout fishing. It became a favorite place for celebrities and then an event center for weddings and other family events. The banquet center at which these events were held was recently replaced with a retail center with restaurants and stores. Called the Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge, this is expected to open next month with 90% of the space leased.
Permission is now being sought by Midwood Investment & Development to raze the hotel with 190 rooms and build the Residences at Sportsmen’s Lodge. There will be 520 apartments in the Residences, of which 78 units will be subsidized affordable housing. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such apartments, their features, and amenities.
Leo Marmol, managing partner of the design-build firm, Marmol Radziner, said the new apartments are in a mid-century modern style. There will be three buildings in the complex with the heights of the buildings ranging from three to seven stories. There will be an underground parking garage for 1,385 cars. Stores and restaurants will be on the ground floor and will blend with the Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge. There will also be a great deal of open space for recreation, shopping, and dining on the site, which spans close to six acres.
