Starting July 17, Studio City filmmakers have begun to get their 3 to 6.5 minute films ready for the upcoming Shout Factory Filmmakers Challenge.
This competition is a vehicle to get new filmmakers to work together in this Collaboration Filmmakers Challenge. Each filmmaker will be required to assist another participant with their project.
A juried panel will determine the filmmaker winner of the $5,000 first prize (winner gets $4,000 and the assisting filmmaker will get $1,000), a $200 Wrapal gift certificate and two-week loaner camera for the second prize, and a copy of Final Draft and $500 Honorable Mention.
Other prizes will include Key Collaborator (first $1,500, runner-up $1,000 and Honorable Mention $500), the Taliesin Nexus Writing Award ($2,500 and 12-week writing fellowship), and Best Visuals. There will also be a post award for editing/music/visual effects, best actor in a comedy and drama, best writing, best use of quote and best set photo.
Judges will be Lauren Craniotes (producer and agent), Gus Krieger (writer, producer and director), Diandra Lyle (film maker), Hayley Littman (talent scout), and Grian and Julien Lasseur (last year’s award winners).
The winning film will be announced and shown August 10 at the Harmony Gold Preview House, 7655 Sunset Boulevard.
Winners of prestigious awards such as these often have their pictures taken for local papers. Many of these photos also go to local Print shops to be made into duplicates for family and friends.
