Studio City Halloween fanatics need to get out their best costumes and prepare to celebrate Halloween by spending the day enjoying films at The Pre-Code Horror event.
This has been billed as "Five films so shocking they changed Hollywood forever”. A prize will be awarded for best costume.
Films made between 1930 and 1934 are called the Hollywood ‘Pre-Code’ era because adhering to the newly introduced Motion Picture Production Code or Hays Code was not fully enforced as yet. This time in film history was also known as Hollywood’s first golden age of horror, with iconic films such as Frankenstein (1931), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), The Island of Lost Souls (1932), The Mummy (1932), and King Kong (1933) released during these years.
The films were shot in black and white, and many of them were only an hour or so in length. Other horror classics of the era included The Invisible Man, The Old Dark House, and the thriller The Black Cat, starring both Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. Poster printing during that time was just as iconic as the films that the Posters were portraying, and events like this often see replicas go on sale.
The film event will take place Friday, October 31 from 9:15 am to 5:15 pm at the Los Angeles Public Library, 12511 Moorpark Street in Studio City.Get a Free Quote for Posters
